Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness week this year is 13th - 19th May 2024
The topic for this years awareness week is movement. Research has already proven that taking part in regular physical activity is really effective for positive mental health. It also helps with our quality of life as well as our overall wellbeing.
You may not realise this but our bodies and minds are connected. Looking after our physical wellbeing helps us keep physical well, reduce stress and health conditions like diabetes, heart disease or strokes (to name a few) as well as helping us feel good about ourselves. This is due to the “feel good” hormones being released when we exercise. But also sleeping better from exercising and feeling part of a community. All of which helps boost our mental health.
Being active doesn’t have to mean running a marathon or swimming the channel. It could simply mean going for a walk. You might want to join a running club, go swimming regularly, join a football group, go yoga or join a marital arts class. Whatever takes your fancy, use this week to get out and move.
