The Butterfly Effect

April is Stress Awareness Month. Stress affects everyone at some point. Sometimes, we endure stress every day, some days more than others, and some days not much at all. Some stress can be beneficial for us as it enhances our ability to succeed. However, too much stress can harm our physical and mental wellbeing.

The theme for 2024 Stress Awareness Month is ‘Little by Little’. The idea is to empathise with how the most minor steps to help support our wellbeing, self-care, and stress reduction can impact our lives. These small steps can hugely improve our mental health and consequently improve our physical health.

You may have heard of the ‘Butterfly Effect’, which was determined by Edward Lorenz. He explored how the most minor, sometimes insignificant effect, like a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil, could set off a tornado in Texas. This idea shows how small changes can create a domino effect with potentially profound results.
