Emotional Burnout

Have you ever had one of those days, when everything you touch seems to go wrong? You have a headache? Everything is annoying, you feel agitated, frustrated and generally not in a good place? Sound familiar? Well you could be experiencing emotional burnout.

It is really common for anyone to feel like this, whether its just from spending too much time in work, family commitments, looking after children, and even more so if you have a child with additional needs or someone who is poorly or suffering with mental health difficulties.

You may find, if this is you, (I know I’ve had days like this) that you don’t feel hungry or you eat rubbish, you don’t sleep properly which means the next day you feel as drained as the day before.

What can you do to help you feel better? Well sometimes, its taking time. You’re now probably thinking but I don’t have time. I know I felt like that recently as I was running from one school meeting to another, having to go to work as well as complete the food shopping, washing, get dinner and collect the kids from school and different activity clubs as well as having another child at home poorly. I feel exhausted just thinking about it. Now I didn’t stop during the day, I didn’t take those crucial 10 minutes to stop and by the end of the evening I felt awful. However, I did stop and I did some yogo for 15 minutes and I felt so much better and slept great so the next day I felt back to normal.

Even taking those 10 minutes to stop, to stop thinking, stop working, to stop and actually breathe can work wonders. Have a cuppa, take the dog for a walk, do some yoga, go in the garden, whatever you fancy, but just stop. You may find it helps you as much as it did me.
